Sturgis Fire Department

In 2004 the City of Sturgis built a new 23,000 square foot building at 1901 Ballpark Rd. The building is shared between Sturgis Volunteer Fire Department and Sturgis Ambulance.

The Sturgis Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) consists of 50 volunteers, 3 structural engines, 5 wild land units, 2 -2,500 gallon water tenders, 1 heavy rescue unit, and 3 support units. The department responds to emergency calls within a 580 square mile response area. SVFD also provides mutual aid to surrounding communities as needed.

Each volunteer Firefighter is required to complete over 150 hours of training to become certified. Certifications consist of Firefighter I, Firefighter II, and wildland. Each volunteer must also complete 24 hours of annual training to stay current on equipment and ever changing firefighting tactics. SVFD responds to fire calls, hazmat, rescues, and provides public education.

The department sells merchandise (t-shirts, pins, patches, stickers, and caps) all year long and during the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally for our annual fund raising. SVFD purchases their equipment through fund raising, donations, and memorials. The department also hosts an annual open house.
